DLLN-Uganda officially hands over Boreholes to Two Communities
On August 19,2024, two communities of Kitaidhumba and Kidera town council were officially given full ownership of boreholes. These boreholes were commisioned on March 1st, 2024 and they are now fully functional.
The ownership of the boreholes was transferred to the locals after a six months trial period. This means that in case of an y break down or need of maintainance, the locals will have to solist fund for such activities.
The bore holes have a state of art technology where the spilled water is collected and used for cattle drinking and other activities like bricks making.
“It is rewarding to see that the boreholes have eased the water stress on both our direct and indirect beneficiaries. Improving access to borehole water is key to ensuring the wellbeing of people, particularly as the climate crisis deepens in Buyende district” , Said Tezikuba Patrick, the mayor of Kidera Town Council
The Director of IOWA state University , Dr. Gideon Nadiope said "It is heartwarming to witness the change the boreholes have brought to these vulnerable communities to enable them to thrive while contributing to Uganda National Development Plan (NDP III), Vision 2040 and the Sustainable Development Goals". He further emphasised the need for proper hygiene in order to avoid water borne diseases.
